Every wedding is unique and different. Sometimes bringing in a new challenge and other times it's simple, yet elegant.
With wedding cupcakes, most brides want some level of customization. This can be a simple one that has edible pearls or flowers on it to match the wedding colors. With the Sundance Film Festival in full force right now we have had some fun cakes and cupcakes requested for Park City. From popcorn cake pops to edible high heels to a Louis Vuitton hand bag.
Below are the cake pops we made for Turner Broadcasting for their Park City Sundance opening night party. We had a blast working with them and even better was her name is Janell...even spelled the same way as mine! :) We also worked with Lisa their event coordinate to get this display in place and make it a memorable night with some yummy cake pops. We did three flavors of cake pops, including Chocolate, Red Velvet and Lemon. Once I get updated photos (professional) I will add them to our facebook page so make sure to follow us. To make the popcorn cake pops we used marshmellows.
Next is a handbag cake and high heel shoe cake for one of our Park City clients. It was a birthday and they wanted something special yet amazing. It was fun to make and I wish I didn't forget my camera! Luckily some of the staff at 350 Main restaurant took some photos for me so I could at least post something about the cake.
Some other valentine ideas....heart cake pops! This is our first year making them so we have been experimenting. Our cake pops can come in any flavor but you have to pre-order to get the flavor options. Our most popular and the two flavors we will have at the cake shoppe is chocolate and red velvet. A dozen heart cake pops are $10, perfect for that valentines day surprise...cake pops...yum!
Valentines day is almost here! Most people wait until the day of or the day before to get something special for that love of theirs......now we have a suggestion...put some thought into it! Do something different or special. Our valentine cake does just this. It's an 8" square valentines cake that has buttercream frosting. We colored the frosting pink but could also do more of a red. Then on top we have LOVE spelled out and again we can customize the word to what you like. You select the flavor and we do the rest!
We also have cupcake scarfs! These are scarfs formed to look like a cupcake...cute!

Here are a few birthday cakes I have made recently. They are a lot of fun to make and always challenge me in new ways. The ship cake was a first and I thought it turned out alright! A lot of detail for that custom cake but we had a blast making it.
The first one to highlight is the casket 40th birthday cake.
I love it when clients have a sense of humor. This casket cake was covered in fondant which we colored by hand to give it the stone look. The dirt around it was made from crunched Oreo and brown sugar.
The next birthday cake was for a one year old and the parents wanted an ice cream cone cake. Very cute!
We do deliver and although most of our birthday cake clients come from Salt Lake City, we can deliver into Provo, Park City, Ogden and other locations.
Red Velvet cupcakes...yum! This is one of our most popular cupcakes, we run out of Red Velvet almost every day. Our favorite Red Velvet moment....well I would say there are two of them.
First, when we opened up a couple of girls came into the cake shoppe. They were shopping at a Roberts Craft store close by and saw our sign and that we sold cupcakes! They came in, and proudly told us they frequent another cupcake bakery close by and loved it. One ordered red velvet and the other ordered the peanut butter chocolate swirl. The girl with the red velvet took one bite and almost right away said' "Oh my gosh, this is amazing!". Now that is the best compliment I could get.
The second time was when a bride and groom ordered 250 red velvet cupcakes for their wedding. It was the only flavor they picked! That was a busy day of baking :).
Its been interesting to see my thinking about what our store is over the last six months. I never really considered us a bakery but that's what One Sweet Slice is categorized as...at first I was bugged we were considered a bakery versus a cake shoppe. But then over time I realized that 'bakery' is just the general term people use and quite frankly.....that's what we are! We bake. But we are special :).
Yes we bake cakes and brownies and other sweet treats like a lot of places do, but we are a specialty bakery and a gourmet bakery mixed into one. Our core products are unique and extremely customized. Our customized birthday and wedding cakes are what set us apart from the typical bakery.
As time goes on, our South Jordan location will expand and grow with more products to offer. This will include birthday cakes ready for pick up but as for now....an appointment will be needed to discuss your custom cake.

The title says it all, for those that love to bake! Businesses in Utah are constantly looking for ways to show appreciation to their clients and even their employees. We get a lot of calls from corporate event planners looking to do something a little different than the donuts or Smith's bakery cake. A lot of them prefer the basic assorted cupcakes with no design added but a popular request is the cupcake that has a logo or something similar to represent what they are celebrating.
Recently a company was celebrating their 25th anniversary and needed a dessert. After giving them a few options, they opted for an assortment of cupcakes with a fondant circle with a '25' on top.
Another company requested cupcakes and a small cake to celebrate how one of their IT employees was being recognized at a large national technology trade show. The business event had about 4 dozen assorted cupcakes and the small cake on top had the companies logo on top.
